Presenter: Mike Armstrong, Deputy Director Division of Marine Fisheries, Cat Cove Marine Lab, Salem, MA
The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (MADMF) has recently resumed use of the Cat Cove Marine Lab after being occupied by Salem State University for the past 20+ years. Major renovations are on-going with the goal of re-inventing and re-invigorating the lab as a major fisheries science and management research center. In this presentation, Mike will discuss the grand vision that MADMF has for the facility including expansion with inclusion of more public aspects such as a small public aquarium, a marine education center, and angler education capabilities. Mike will also present information on the research that has already been initiated from the Cat Cove Lab on some of our locally important finfish species including studies on the catch and release mortality of striped bass and a comprehensive study looking at the fine scale use of habitats by all life stages of the winter flounder.
